As a result of the BIIG project, California's most remote public K-12 schools are overcoming barriers to Internet access and being connected to the world-class California Research and Education Network (CalREN), the high-performance broadband network operated by CENIC.

The California Academy of Sciences Joins CENIC

The California Academy of Sciences now has a direct connection to CENIC’s California Research and Education Network (CalREN), and from there to the world. At a speed of 10 Gbps per second, this access to the ultra-high bandwidth of the CENIC network will provide scientists and patrons of the Academy with fifty times more capacity, enabling new opportunities to engage, create, invent, and learn. Prior to completing the connection to CalREN, the Academy was operating with 200 Mbps of connectivity. This level of enhanced connectivity is already making a difference in day-to-day operations.

Path-breaking 100-Gigabit Connections Between Level 3 and CENIC Networks- CENIC has established links to Level 3's network in both San Jose and Los Angeles, Calif., delivering an unprecedented 200 gigabits per second of Internet capacity to California institutions. This upgrade complements the recent 100G backbone upgrades that CENIC had completed last year throughout California.
