CENIC’s Program Management Office (PMO) serves as the primary point of contact for our members and provides end-to-end project management services for all service deployment activities including connectivity upgrades, optical services, and DDoS Mitigation services. Starting with a call or email from a member institution, the assigned CENIC project manager facilitates meetings with CENIC engineers to develop tailored solutions, requests quotes from service providers, authorizes and manages service delivery, and hands the completed service to CENIC's Network Operations Center for active monitoring. The CENIC PMO also applies its expertise to internal initiatives that improve the deployment, reliability, and quality of the services CENIC provides to its members. Our mission is to provide a solid foundation for internal and external projects by creating an environment of measurable, disciplined Project Management professionalism, and a track record of leading projects through to completion.
The Network Services team designs, plans, and implements changes across the networks operated by CENIC, including CalREN, which spans domains such as peering, DWDM, BGP, Segment Routing, EVPN, IS-IS, and automation. Our engineers also collaborate with our members on various research and education projects and connectivity upgrades, and also serve as an escalation point for the Operations team during challenging technical issues.
The operations team's primary role is to monitor the network and notify our members whenever any incidents affect the network or their services. Engineers are also expected to work with our members to troubleshoot routing and network performance issues and work with our hardware providers on break-fixes. In addition, the team performs both non-impacting and impacting maintenance involving the deployment of new hardware, upgrading software on devices, and migrating services.
