CENIC-Sponsored Workshops

CENIC’s mission of providing the benefits of advanced networks to the eleven million Californians that use CalREN every day allows us an excellent opportunity to function as a nexus of next generation networking technology within California and beyond. After all, CENIC seeks to promote advanced networking for all of research and education within the Golden State, and often the best way to achieve this is to promote the kind of cutting-edge innovation that drives demand for such connectivity.

Through various invited workshops, CENIC has brought together many of the top movers and shakers in the world of advanced networking for research and education for one- to two-day programs of presentations, demonstrations, and the brainstorming needed to turn today’s cutting-edge technology into tomorrow’s research and education innovations.

Second National Research Platform Workshop: Toward A National Big Data Superhighway
Montana State University, Bozeman August 6-7, 2018

The Second National Research Platform (2NRP) Workshop will bring together representatives from interested institutions to discuss implementation strategies for deployment of interoperable Science DMZs at a national, and potentially international, scale. The viewpoints of researchers, cyberinfrastructure experts, CIOs, as well as perspectives from regional and national networks, will help shape the program. Recent experiences from projects such as the National Science Foundation-funded Pacific Research Program, along with analogous national and international projects, will be essential features of the workshop, as well.

Sessions at 2NRP will also be devoted to science-driver application researchers, who will describe their needs for high-speed data transfer, including their successes and frustrations. Discussions will focus on requirements from the domain scientists and the networking architecture, policies, tools, and security necessary to deploy a National Research Platform. For more information, see the first NRP workshop report in 2017.

Please register now and book your accommodations as soon as possible, because lodging can be limited in the Bozeman area, as it is popular summer tourist destination near Yellowstone National Park. We encourage you to make any air travel arrangements, as costs increase and options decrease as summer approaches. We have provided a convenient list of accommodation options.

While the program details for 2018 are not yet finalized, you can refer to the 2017 sessions for an example of some topics that will be covered. You can also watch videos from last year’s sessions to learn more: day one and day two.

2NRP is co-sponsored by Calit2/PRP, Internet2, ESnet, Montana State University, and CENIC.
