Cal State’s CMS Data Center Transformation Recognized with CENIC Innovation Award
This award recognizes the significant effort required to bring the CMS data center from Salt Lake City to its current state-of-the-art facility in Silicon Valley, thereby enabling CSU to use a hybrid cloud platform. Project leader George Mansoor will accept the award on behalf of the numerous CSU staff who contributed to this project.
Technology Projects to Combat California Wildfires Are Recognized
WIFIRE, HPWREN, and AlertTahoe Awarded the 2018 Innovations in Networking Award for Experimental Applications. These three projects are being recognized for their work to bring advanced IT and telecommunications to the fight to contain California wildfires: the WIFIRE, HPWREN, and AlertTahoe. Project leaders being recognized are Ilkay Altintas, John Graham, Graham Kent, and Frank Vernon.

Stuart Lynn, who led the creation of CENIC — now among the world’s most heavily used research and education networks — has been selected by CENIC as a recipient of the 2017 Founders Award.
Wide-Area Visualization Environment (WAVE) System at UC Merced Awarded the 2017 Innovations in Networking Award
The Wide-Area Visualization Environment (WAVE) at UC Merced is one of many projects enabled by the Pacific Research Platform. This massive display, consisting of twenty 4k resolution screens, provides student and faculty researchers at UC Merced to work with the cutting-edge of virtual reality hardware. WAVE is an exciting example of a tool that can reduce the gap between data collection and interpretation and the dissemination of that data to researchers and the public.
Women in IT Networking at SC Awarded the 2017 Innovations in Networking Award
In recognition of work to expand the diversity of the SCinet volunteer staff and to provide professional development opportunities to highly qualified women in the field of networking, the Women in IT Networking at SC (WINS) program has been selected by CENIC as a recipient of the 2017 Innovations in Networking Award for Experimental Applications. Project members being recognized include Wendy Huntoon (KINBER), Marla Meehl (UCAR), and Kate Petersen Mace, Lauren Rotman, and Jason Zurawski (ESnet).

In recognition of their work to develop a system-wide federated identity for students across the 113 California Community Colleges, the California Community Colleges Technology Center has been selected by CENIC as a recipient of the 2017 Innovations in Networking Award. Individuals named in the award include Tim Calhoon, Executive Director; Lou Delzompo, Chief Technology Officer; Patricia Donohue, Product Manager; Roberto Fuentes, Supervisor, Support Services; and Jeff Holden, Chief Information Security Officer.
