The Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) announced the successful validation of ZR Plus coherent pluggables over CENIC’s production optical line system between Los Angeles and Sunnyvale, spanning a 750 km amplified distance.

SACRAMENTO – On the heels of Governor Gavin Newsom’s $6.5 billion investment to expand broadband infrastructure and enhance internet access for unserved and underserved communities, today construction began in rural San Diego County on the first leg of the 10,000-mile broadband network aimed at bringing high-speed internet services to all Californians, no matter where they live.

On November 18th, the Governor’s Office announced the initial 18 broadband projects that will begin to comprise the middle-mile network. These initial projects span areas of need across the state, including rural, tribal, and urban communities.

CENIC has built a new and diverse fiber path between Sacramento and northern California, adding to its inland route. The new path creates a diverse 260-mile regional loop from Sacramento and back, traveling through Colusa, Corning, Palo Cedro, and Chico. The path has 3.2 terabits per second of capacity and includes new nodes in Chico and Palo Cedro.
