CENIC Protective DNS Solution

CENIC's Protective DNS Solution uses Cloudflare’s Gateway for Protective DNS, a cloud-based DNS filtering and protective service built on the Cloudflare Gateway Secure Web Gateway platform. It analyzes DNS queries from users and devices to block access to malicious or unwanted domains using configurable security policies.  This solution:

  • Is fully cloud-based, eliminating hardware refreshes, maintenance, and staffing challenges
  • Protects users and students whether they’re on the school network or at home
  • Filters DNS requests to block harmful or risky domains.
  • Admins can define and enforce DNS policies (block, allow, redirect).
  • Works for both office/site-based users and remote users via DNS over HTTPS (DoH) or DNS over TLS (DoT)
  • Logs DNS activity and provides insights into threats and user behavior
