CENIC is pleased to inform California's research and education communities about the creation of a Cisco Systems purchasing discount to all CENIC public and private member institutions. This new discount program is now available to CENIC’s Charter Associate members, including the California K-12 system, California’s Community Colleges, the California State University, the University of California, California’s public libraries, and other private CENIC member institutions.
Thanks to this agreement between CENIC and Cisco -- longtime allies on behalf of California’s research and education communities -- these communities can enjoy a significant savings in future infrastructure costs versus current procurement options.
“Cisco has been a valuable ally since CENIC’s earliest days, and we are pleased to make this discount available to the public and private institutions that serve millions of Californians,” says CENIC President and Chief Executive Officer Louis Fox. “This agreement will afford substantial cost savings to California’s public and private education segments, and will enable them to redirect scarce funds to maintaining and expanding their missions, even in the face of budgetary challenges.”
The specifics of how individual segments and institutions will access these discounts are currently under discussion, and the CENIC community will be kept informed of developments.
Libraries educate Californians on how to navigate the Internet, providing access to employment and training, telehealth, and more. To ensure that patrons can use these opportunities, libraries also provide digital navigators to assist patrons in acquiring digital skills.
Hard-to-reach areas may require wireless edge networks to connect to a middle-mile backbone. Tradeoffs in frequency, license status, and power can make it challenging to determine the best solution.
