The National Science Foundation has issued a $1 million grant to Larry Smarr, director of Calit2, and his colleagues to create a community cyber infrastructure in support of machine learning research. The innovative project– Cognitive Hardware and Software Ecosystem, Community Infrastructure (CHASE-CI) – is intended to leverage the high-speed Pacific Research Platform (PRP) to address machine learning and its distinct hardware, software, and architecture needs.

The San Diego Promise Zone: Connecting Potential with Promise When parts of San Diego became one of the twenty-two federally designated Promise Zones in the U.S., the community came together in creative ways to improve the quality of life for all Zone residents. The focus of the initiative is to increase access to everything from affordable housing to jobs, safe environments, educational opportunities, healthcare, and economic activity.
